How to Market Your Business on Social Media to Make More Sale

As a social media trainer - when people come to me for help they typically have one of the following two scenarios.

They either have their own product or service that they are trying to market, like a course or maybe a coaching package, or they are trying to market another company's product or service, like in direct sales or affiliate marketing. 

Do either of these scenarios sound like your situation?

In either case all they want to know is how they can get more people from social media directly to their sales page so they can acquire new buyers.

This is how most people approach social media marketing, and it may be your current approach. 

However, it is not the most effective way to get sales.

Here is Why It Doesn't Work

People have small attention spans on social media, and they are primarily there to be entertained.

The expectation that they are going to suddenly see your post for the first time and go immediately to your sales page to buy something is unrealistic.

Think about how you use social media. 

Most of the time you are just killing time. 

You may be waiting in line to pick up your child or literally sitting in the bathroom, and you're not in the position to pull out your credit card and buy anything.

So what's the solution? 

How can you take someone from social media and turn them into your next customer?

Well, like I mentioned earlier people have small attention spans on social media. 

Instead of leading them directly to your sales page, have them take a smaller step with you - something that will be met with less resistance.

So Here is What I Do Instead

Here is how to market your business on social media.

The first thing I do is create content that would entertain my perfect audience. 

So I need to look at what I am selling and then determine the types of people who would be the perfect buyers. 

What challenges do they have where my product, service or opportunity would be the perfect solution? 

Then I create content around those challenges.

The content I create is in the form of a YouTube video that I place inside of my blog post, and I lead people through a process of getting to know, like and trust me before I start recommending my products and services.

Finally, I use social media to promote my content as opposed to leading them directly to my sales page.

As straightforward as this is, here is why many business owners don't follow this process. 

It takes more work. 

There is more work upfront that is required of you, and you're wondering if all of this is really necessary to get the results that you're looking for. 

Unless you are a well-known celebrity or are already famous then most likely you will need to put in the work as well.

Now fortunately we live in a day and age where we can use tools and resources to speed up the process and have a lot of the parts done-for-you. This was really key for me, being a wife and busy mom of 3. 

Why You Need Your Own Blog or Website

Now the wrong way to use social media is to host all of your main content on a particular social media platform. 

The problem with this is that you don't own the platform. 

What if the platform goes away or what if your account gets shut down?

Instead you want to house your content on something that you own, like your own website or blog. 

These are things that you own, and it can't be taken away from you.

How to Market Your Business on Social Media Using a Blog

With episode of Jemima Davis TV I create a YouTube video, and I place that video here on my blog with a written summary of the discussion. 

In every episode I also include recommendations and free resources for someone to take a small step with me. 

It's very rare that I will promote a paid offer directly from my blog post where I'm sending people directly to a sales page.

I feel like I have to earn the right to ask people to spend money with me, and I do that by providing value upfront.

And I ask you, the reader, why would you consider spending money with someone if you don't know the caliber of content that they have? 

You don't want to waste your money on something or on someone that is not going to provide you with a solution.

Taking people off of social media to your blog, gets them into your world, and it positions you as a credible authority even if you are brand new. 

In episode 20 of Jemima Davis TV, I provide several tips on how you can create valuable freebies for an audience even if you are just getting started and don't have any results yet.

When people receive that value upfront, they are like "wow this information is so great. I wonder what it would be like to spend money with or work with this individual." 

So now when I make my offer and recommendations of my product, service or business opportunity then people are 10 times more likely to take me up on that offer because I added value into their life..

In Closing

So I use social media as a platform to find perfect buyers by first moving them to the content on my blog. 

Next I move them over to a free offer that delivers additional value. 

Then from my free offer I make my recommendations that then leads them to my sales pages where I sell my products and services.

Most people on social media are not doing this. 

They are saying "Hey go buy my stuff", but they haven't proven themselves valuable enough for people to want to buy anything from them.

So this is a high level overview of how to market your business on social media to make more sales, and there are going to be several assets that you will need to set everything up for yourself.
